Blue Morpho Butterfly Month

-

Enjoy this month-long display of nature at its finest! Marvel at the Blue Morpho as hundreds of these tropical butterflies fill the Day Butterfly Center with their iridescent-blue splendor. If the trend continues, visitors to the Day Butterfly Center will witness the largest display of Blue Morpho Butterflies on the planet during September.

As one of the largest butterflies, with a wingspan of five to eight inches, the Blue Morpho makes a beautiful subject for photos and video. Yet normally throughout the year they maintain the reputation of being notoriously difficult to capture on film.  Blue Morpho Month gives you the best opportunity to photograph these butterflies because of the tremendous concentration within the Butterfly Conservatory. Morphos do most of their flying between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. so for the best results, those looking to take photos should consider visiting when the butterflies are resting: before 10 a.m. or after 3 p.m..

Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival

-

Soar into September at the 20th annual Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival. The weekend kicks off with the extraordinary Friday Night Balloon Glow and continues all weekend long. Watch beautiful balloons in flight or hop in a basket for your own tethered balloon ride. Saturday is filled with family-friendly events, including live music, beach activities, a Kids Zone and much more. There's something for everyone with a classic car show, disc dog demonstrations, a pyrotechnic skydiving demonstration, as well as a 5K Race and Triathlon event. If you're a photography buff, you can sign up for the hands-on "Mastering Night Photography" course. Plus, you'll find drink specials and sports on the televisions at the Beach Bar. Cap off the weekend with a final balloon glow Sunday night on Robin Lake Beach. With this exciting line-up of events, surrounded by the natural beauty of Callaway Gardens, there's no better way to say "farewell" to Summer 2017.

Please note that hot air ballooning is 100% dependent on calm winds and good weather. Balloon flights and tethered rides typically take place one hour after sunrise and two hours before sunset.  Pilots will do their best to make flights and rides available while maintaining safety as our first priority.

Put a holiday twist on the campaign for healthier babies by walking through Fantasy In Lights® to benefit the March of Dimes.

On Saturday, November  11, 2017,  join thousands of others for the annual March of Dimes Night Walk through Fantasy In Lights. On this special night, the lights may be enjoyed by walkers only – cars and trolleys are not allowed. Last year, almost 6,780 people participated in the Night Walk. Your ticket purchase is a donation, there will be no refunds.  Thank you for your support. Guests walk the five miles to the shuttle pickup point, or the seven miles back to the starting point.  For those who run out of steam, there is a vehicle that picks up those guests too.

All walkers must begin before 7:20 p.m.  Tickets will be available online until 11:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10.  They will be available onsite on Saturday, Nov. 11.
