Homeschool In The Park Day!

9:30 AM-11:30 AM Pre-register for H.I.P. Day, an exciting discovery of our natural world geared towards homeschool families. 

Discover native trees and wildflowers during a woodland walk. Participate in an investigative plant lab.  Make a natural souvenir to take home. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the park on your own afterwards.

Bug Blitz

10:00 - 11:00 AM Join park staff as we investigate nocturnal moths, beetles, and other invertebrates that inhabit the park. We’ll use special lights to attract them and then view them closely. Meets in the pavilion next to the Trading Post in the Campground.

Water Wonders

10:00 - 11:00 AM Drop by and see what inhabitants

live in our lakes. We provide nets,

viewing scopes, & interesting discoveries like frogs, fish and aquatic insects. Children must be accompanied by adults. Meet next to fishing dock in the campground.​

Lake Franklin Adventure—Your State Parks Day

9:00 AM-4:00 PM Discover our hidden jewel, 25-acre Lake Franklin. Fish from the banks. Test your paddling skills on the water. Picnic under a shady oak. Make & take home a fabulous fish craft project. No Fishing License Required! No Parking Fee! Bait and drinks will be available for purchase. Bring bait, gear, chairs & picnic. Meet at Small Group Camp past Roosevelt Stables off Kings Gap Road.

Star Light, Star Bright!

Molly Hugger Hike

10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Join the Pine Mountain Trail Association for a trek along the ridge ending at Molly Hugger Hill Parking Lot. Geared towards ages 10 & up.  PMT will help with transportation back to car. Meet at Fox Den Cove Parking Lot along Hwy 190; 5.0 moderate miles; bring water & snack.

Music & Dancing on The Mountain with Randy & Darlene Dameron

Bring a chair and enjoy music from the NGFD Assoc. and an unbelievable fall view off Pine Mountain Ridge. Appalachian lap dulcimers and assorted other acoustical instruments will be highlighted. Meet at the rock amphitheater next to the park office on Hwy 190. Free

Pumpkin Campfire

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Join us next to the campfire for stories and games celebrating  harvest time. Bring a carved pumpkin and enter it in the contest.  Awards for pumpkin carving and campsite decorating.  Meet at campground amphitheater below Lake Delanor dam. Bring a marshmallow stick and  flashlight.

The Steeplechase at Callaway Gardens

A Callaway Gardens tradition on the first Saturday of every November, the Steeplechase features thoroughbreds racing through woodland surroundings, plus pony rides, a foxhound parade, a hat contest and much more. Steeplechase beneficiaries include the non-profit Ida Cason Callaway Foundation and its mission of environmental conservation, education and land stewardship.
